Why Should I get a Pre Purchase Inspection

Our experience has enabled us to enjoy a unique perspective on the real value and marketability of the cars we all enjoy.
Many inspection services have qualified inspectors located in several locations. The services they offer are targeted to the inspection of cars, truck, and SUV’s that are used as regular transportation by their owners. The typical car they may inspect is a 4 or 5 year old Toyota, Honda, Chevy, Ford, with the occasional BMW or Mercedes thrown in. These inspectors do a very thorough job using a predetermined checklist for operational flaws, scratches, dings, tire wear, etc. The inspectors usually have a mechanical background, with many of them being ASE certified technicians. I feel that they offer the great majority of the automobile buyers a great service at a reasonable price.
Expert Auto Appraisals inspection services are not designed to service the majority of the buyers. Our services are designed to adapt to a very broad spectrum of specialty vehicles and the enthusiasts that own them. We have been exclusively involved in the marketplace of specialty, collector, and high end automobiles since 1985 professionally. We understand the significant concerns that dramatically affect the market value of particular cars. We have a great amount of experience with all American Muscle Cars, Porsche, Corvette, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Iso Griffo, AC, and everything else from Abarth to Zagato.
Here’s a classic example is a 1965 Corvette 396 we performed an inspection on. The car was great if I was going through a checklist looking for flaws, scratches, tire condition, etc. However we all know that C2 Corvette’s, particularly Big Block’s valuations are very heavily weighted on driveline originality. My inspection uncovered that the vehicle had a proper 396 engine, though stamped correctly, was not the original engine to that car. Our client was negotiating on a car that by his understanding, a correct numbers matching example. Here’s a couple of photos from our inspection report that told a different story. We I inspected the car, I was very uncomfortable with the appearance of the stamp pad. I had a concern and continued to look for clues to tell the story. The block was cast in an acceptable range, however was on the limit of what could have been considered acceptable. We then went through a large box of documentation and went through countless receipts, photos, brochures, magazine articles, to find the second picture shown. Same numbers and letters, but if you look closely, you can easily see, they are not identical and on a different block. This certainly was a game changer for our client and the true value of this car. The car was very nice otherwise.

Though the condition of the nicks, scratches, and tires is important for an inspector to report on, on this inspection example, we worked on acquiring the most important information that could affect this vehicles value, and didn’t leave until our findings were conclusive. This also allows us to remain objective. If we have an example of a significant car that is very correct, but does have small flaws or very serviceable issues, we won’t allow those trivial issues to sway your purchasing decision if we are looking at a very correct car. We aim to assist you in purchasing a car, presenting ourselves professionally, and ensuring your experience is a good one, and keeping you from making a mistake that you’d only regret. We would like to add that most sellers are very happy to accommodate our inspection, and also have a higher comfort level of engaging into a transaction that all parties are better informed. It’s amazing how often we are able bring an issue to a sellers attention. It helps all parties in putting together a fair and equitable deal. We hope to serve you for your vehicle inspection needs.
