1970 Detomaso Mangusta

I traveled to Burbank, California to perform a Pre Purchase Inspection on this 1970 Detomaso Mangusta at the Auctions America Event in Burbank. This was a car that displayed many of the problems that Mangusta’s were known to have, including rust. This car was passed on by my client after the inspection, however the bidding on the car was robust and stopped at the hammer price of $195,000. This was just an indication of how strong these very rare cars have become in the market today. Only 401 Mangusta’s were produced over worldwide from 1967 to 1971. It is believed that only 250 have survived. Top examples of the cars are approaching $400,000 and the interest for these is global. The Mangusta’s were powered by both Ford 289’s and 302’s and all were mated to a bullet proof ZF 5 Speed transaxle. They had a great look and a unique Gullwing engine bay doors. All of the cars had AC, Rack and Pinion Steering, 4 Wheel Disc Brakes, and power windows.
