With Mecum Kissimmee 2018 just a week away, I had a chance to think of a few great cars that I inspected and bid on at last years event. One was this 1970 Plymouth Superbird. The car was quite a rare car, a V-Code 440 Six Pack with a 4 Speed and finished in Petty Blue. The car was one of 308 V Code 1970 Superbirds produced and one of 7 finished in Petty Blue, and most of the paint on the car was original. The car was a low mile California car, and very original car in every regard. There was some signs of light paint refinishing on the front corner, but most of the paint was original with some nicks, chips, and light scars of 47 years. An awesome true survivor. The drive line on the car was completely original. I performed an inspection for a European client and bid on the vehicle on his behalf. The car did not meet reserve but according to the auction website, was bid to $270,000. I dropped out well short the high bid. The seller was holding on for more. I think the car was a great example, original to some fault, and well represented with a David Wise inspection report.
On one afternoon, the Mecum Auction staff pulled all the Winged cars outside and lined them up. A great presentation and rare opportunity to see such a display.
