Every January, Expert Auto Appraisals attends the various auctions that run together in Scottsdale. The Scottsdale Auctions always bring some great cars to the market and I have had the good fortune of performing Pre Purchase Inspections on some of those cars. This year, I performed an inspection at RM Sothebys which offered this 1987 Porsche 959. This is a great car, fully documented history, recent service, as well as a full compliment of spares, books, recents, first aid kit, and even the Wabco diagnostics tester. This example is one of a few cars that were legally registered in California. This car was imported into the US in 2001 and went through a six year federalization process. Most of the 959’s that have been in the marketplace today have recently been imported due to the 25 year compliance exemption. This car crossed the auction block with a winning bid of $1,160,000 including buyers premium and now resides in the garage of a good client of Expert Auto Appraisals.
Porsche built the 959’s originally as a Group B Rally car and built the street cars to satisfy the homologation requirements. In all, 337 cars were produced. Water Cooled cylinder heads, 444 HP, Aluminum and Kevlar Body panels, All wheel drive, Twin Turbo’s, adjustable suspension, and a top speed of 197 mph. The 959 was a technological achievement at the time of design, and I can say from the testing of this example, it’s still an impressive supercar with incredible performance.
