Expert Auto Appraisals inspected this 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Club Sport. I performed this Porsche inspection during Monterey Car Week at the Gooding & Co Pebble Beach 2022 auction. My inspection proved this was a great example of a rare Porsche 911 Carrera variant. The car’s specification was excellent, M637 Club Sport option, Metallic Paint To Sample Lime Green Metallic, with two-tone Celebration cloth Sport seats. As a result, my client was the winning bidder on the car. Gooding & Co. cataloged the car with an auction estimate of $400,000 to $500,000. As a result, my client was the winning bidder on the car for $467,000 with buyer premium.
1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Club Sport
The Carrera Club Sport was equipped with a 3.2L liter flat-six engine, producing 231 horsepower, the same as its European counterparts. Weight savings was where Porsche made the biggest performance gains. As an example, they used a lightweight starter motor. Removed from the Carrera specification were Headlight washers, Fog Lights, Rear wiper, passenger sun-visor, and reduced sound deadening. Additionally, Porsche deleted Power Windows, Central Locking, and Air Conditioning. Furthermore, Porsche used less underbody coating, changing the corrosion warranty to only two years instead of ten. Due to these efforts, the Club Sport shaved 155 lbs from a Carrera. Porsche included Bilstein shocks and 16″ wheels in the M637 Club Sport option. In conclusion, Porsche produced approximately 340 M637 Club Sports equipped 911’s from September 1987 till September 1989.
