In February 2014, a sinkhole opened up in the National Corvette Museum and swallowed 8 Corvettes. This event was well covered by national news media and rocked the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. A total of 8 cars went into the sinkhole at about 5:30 am that morning. One of the cars, and arguably the most significant of the cars, was the one millionth Corvette ever produced. This is an important piece of Corvette history, as well as Sports Car history.
On behalf of one of the parties involved in the claim, I traveled up to Bowling Green, KY and inspected the cars to perform Total Loss Appraisals on each of the cars taken by the sinkhole. This was a very unique appraisal due to the significance of the car, and how different in value the car is from the one produced just before or after. As you can see in the photos, the car was heavily damaged, and with support from General Motors, the car is to be restored.
