Expert Auto Appraisals inspected this 1995 Porsche 928 GTS at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2022 auction. I performed the inspection for a Canadian client. RM Sotheby’s sold the car for $365,000 at auction hammer, $406,500 with buyer premium. My client to a good run at the car; however, the bidding went beyond his limit, and the auction estimate was well above the auction estimate of $225,000 to $275,000. I feel this result was largely due to the presentation and specification. The car’s specifications were excellent, finished in Midnight Blue with Classic Grey and a 5-speed manual transmission.
1995 Porsche 928 GTS
The GTS was the final variant of the Porsche 928. The GTS has several subtle visual differences from its predecessors. Porsche widened the rear quarters to accommodate larger wheels making for a 69 mm wider rear track. The rear spoiler was redesigned and available in body color or black. The mirrors were a smoother 959 style. A reflector was fitted between the rear taillights. In order to fill the wider flares, the larger 17″ Porsche Cup wheels were fitted, 7.5″ in front and 9″ in rear.
In addition to filling the wider body, the larger wheels make room for larger 12.7″ front brake rotors from the 911 Turbo. Porsche continued its work mechanically as well. The engine displacement was bumped to 5.4L by increasing the stroke, producing 345 HP at 5,700 rpm. The engine internals included lighter connecting rods, forged pistons, and eight main bearings. In addition to filling the wider body, the larger wheels make room for larger 12.7″ front brake rotors from the 911 Turbo. Porsche produced 2,904 928 GTSs worldwide from 1992 to 1995. The North American market production was limited to 407 total cars from 1993 to 1995. Due to the very low production for the US market, Porsche only produced 26 examples with the 5-speed manual gearbox in 1995.
