I performed a pre purchase inspection on this 1981 Porsche 924 GTS Carrera Club Sport in Raleigh, North Carolina. Bring a Trailer Auctions had the listing, represented by Road Scholars. I first looked at this car in 2016 while on display at the Werks Reunion in Monterey. When the car was listed, I took the opportunity to inspect the car prior to my clients bidding in the auction.
Porsche produced 59 924 Carrera GTS examples. All of the GTS included polyurethane fenders, doors, hood scoop, and rear flares, Fiberglass Hood, Lexan rear glass and sliding door windows, light alloy trailing arms, lightweight windshield, Lollipop 935 fixed back seats, Billstein Coilover suspension, 16″ Fuchs, and Turbo brakes. Porsche produced only 15 Club Sport examples of the 59 total GTS’ produced. The Club Sport models included an Integrated Matter roll cage, larger inter-cooler, and produced approximately 30 more horsepower than the GTS. However, my research has shown that there were some deviations with seats / details for customer requests. I have performed inspections on 4 of the 15 Club Sport examples Porsche built.
In summary, this is one of the rarest Porsche transaxle cars that few have ever seen. This example had only 819 km indicated, and showed to be in excellent and completely original condition. The winning bidder bought this quite well at $261,000, well below my estimate of $285,000 to $330,000.
