I performed a pre purchase inspection on this 2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina at the Mecum Auction in Glendale, Arizona. Mecum Auctions offered several Ferrari’s from the Steve Todhunter Collection, featuring low mileage significant examples. Ferrari produced only 448 550 Barchetta’s, this example with only 1,507 original miles, therefore, a rare opportunity. The market on good Ferrari 550 Barchetta’s has been proven to be strong. As with all auctions to date in 2021, the market has been robust and buyers were aggressive. Therefore, bidding on this car went beyond the expectations of my client. Mecum sold the 550 Barchetta for $400,000 at auction hammer, $440,000 with premium, above the estimate of $275,000 to $350,000.
Ferrari Inspection
The Ferrari inspection performed included an examination of paint and body, paint meter measurements, and review of records and documentation. Additionally, I started the vehicle in place, tested features and equipment, chassis and suspension were inspected. I photographed the vehicle, delivered over 350 detailed photographs of every aspect of the car, including undercarriage with my summary. In conclusion, I fully reviewed the vehicle. Once completed, I consulted the client with the findings so he was able to make an informed bidding decision.
